Physical Exam (6/22): TPR WNL

  • Left front foot has a cyst between the 3rd and 4th digits

Treatment:

  • Cephalexin and soaking the foot
  • Recheck in 10 days

Recheck exam (7/2): TPR WNL

  • Cyst has improved dramatically
  • Keep on Cephalexin, recheck before Case #7 runs out

Recheck exam (7/20): TPR WNL

  • Cyst has resolved
  • Also performed bloodwork, UA, fecal, and HWT because Case #7 was due for all of it
    • Fecal/HWT negative
    • Bloodwork/UA WNL

The saga continues…
Case #7 developed a cyst on her left hind foot

Physical exam (7/31): TPR WNL

  • Left hind foot has a cyst between the 3rd and 4th digits

Treatment:

  • Same as before

Recheck exam (8/10): TPR WNL

  • Cyst has improved but still warrants ongoing anti biotic therapy

Recheck exam (8/24):

  • Cyst has improved dramatically, but there is still a palpable bump between the toes so ongoing anti biotic therapy is warranted

Interdigital Cysts, aka Interdigital Furuncles

  • Regions of nodular pyogranulomatous inflammation
  • Causes:
    • Allergies (Canine Atopic Dermatitis)
    • Ingrown hairs or foreign bodies
    • Yeast infections
  • Treatment:
    • Topical and systemic anti biotics
      • Can take a prolonged course of medication to resolve the infection
    • Anti fungal therapy may be indicated
    • Recommend diet change to Hill’s prescription diet Derm Defense
  • Do NOT stop medication before the lesion is completely gone!
